Insurance and Cost of Veterinary Treatment
At Animals Are Us Vets we try to keep all our prices competitive and cost effective to ensure veterinary treatment is not prohibitive while at the same time not compromising the treatment your pets receive by charging too low. However much we try to be cost effective veterinary treatment can be expensive and it is estimated that up to £1.3 billion is spent annually on veterinary treatment in the UK. We therefore encourage clients to insure their pets as this could be the most important thing an owner can do for their pet.
There is no NHS for pets, therefore insurance allows an owner to budget on a monthly basis rather than be presented with a large veterinary bill unexpectedly. With many advances in veterinary treatment, insurance allows your pet to take full advantage of these modern and effective treatments. These may include hip replacements, chemotherapy and radiotherapy among others.
There are several types of veterinary insurance, so it is important that you choose correctly. Please do read the small print and understand the policy and level of cover before committing yourself. If it all seems complicated, then please call one of our staff who will be happy to assist. Whatever you decide we believe any insurance is better than none as accidents do occur, often at the most inconvenient times.
Different types of insurances
Lifetime cover policy
There is no limit as to the time and amount you claim so long as you keep up with your payment and renew your policy as required. This is ideal for chronic cases such as arthritis, heart problems, dermatitis, diabetes etc.
Maximum benefit policy
This policy gives a set amount per condition (eg £5,000) to be used up with no time limit.
Time-limited policies
This policy gives a maximum amount to be spent per condition, but unlike the maximum benefit above, you are allowed to claim for only 12 months. This policy is very limiting and you may feel cheated when you realize that you only spent a small fraction of what you are entitled within the year. It is not good for ongoing conditions such as arthritis, dermatitis, diabetes etc.
